picture-7.png Reece – THE PRESIDENT

Reece is the good-looking first-semester president for TOA in the 2008-2009 school year. With passion for Africa born from his own experiences there, Reece loves God and is in awe of the beauty of the world around him. He’s a real man with the leg hair to prove it. He also tends to holler when it snows…

cait.png Caitlyn – also THE PRESIDENT

Our second-semester President for the 08-09 year, Caitlyn has a passion for just about everything. She’s outgoing and artistic, and her heart is on fire for meeting new faces, new experiences, and sharing her faith. Caitlyn’s goal in Africa is to help children to develop their own uniqueness and talents, and to use those gifts to add value to their surroundings.

ca.png CarolAnn D. – the VICE PRESIDENT

A mean swing-dancer and a soon-to-be professional Colorado horseback rider, CA is the strong arm of TOA. She’ll be backing Reece and Caitlyn for the next year!

salliepic.jpg Sallie – The BANKER

Don’t pass go and collect- Donate! Sallie holds the cards here at TOA, and she plays them like an ace. If money is a vehicle, she is the driver. And when you drive like that, who needs a license?

picture-4.png.picture-5.png
Ali B. and Elizabeth C. – the Associated Press Retrievers

From the tag-team duo that brought you the first and only reviews of “Step Up” and “You Got Served” that mattered , comes a new world of news! But seriously, these two are bringing the facts to the table in TOA for the next year. They are both wise beyond their years, and ridiculously intelligent and current-event savvy to-boot. They do and will keep us up-to-date on developments in our focal continent.

picture-2.png Drew M. – the WEB MASTER (in training)

If HTML had training wheels, Drew might be a master of it by now. However, he cannot find them on EBAY, so he must assume they don’t exist. Ergo, Drew is in training (so if you have ideas, email him). A lover of God and of the wild, Drew tends to leave his shoes in the door. Especially when dancing.

sabrinapic2.jpg Sabrina, aka “Toto” – Official Poster Child

Friend and kindred spirit of Kalen (ex-‘heart and soul’ of TOA). Singer, dancer, entertainer, and multi-lingual enthusiast. Hates nap time. Loves flashlights. She’s the unofficial morning wake-up call. Currently working on her english…“see you!”

The Things That Haven’t Been Done Before

- Edgar Guest

The things that haven’t been done before,
Those are the things to try;
Columbus dreamed of an unknown shore
At the rim of the far-flung sky,
And his heart was bold and his faith was strong
As he ventured in dangers new,
And he paid no heed to the jeering throng
Or the fears of the doubting crew.

The many will follow the beaten track
With guideposts on the way.
They live and have lived for ages back
With a chart for every day.
Someone has told them it’s safe to go
On the road he has traveled o’er,
And all that they ever strive to know
Are the things that were known before.

A few strike out, without map or chart,
Where never a man has been,
From the beaten paths they draw apart
To see what no man has seen.
There are deeds they hunger alone to do;
Though battered and bruised and sore,
They blaze the path for the many, who
Do nothing not done before.

The things that haven’t been done before
Are the tasks worthwile today;
Are you one of the flock that follows, or
Are you one that shall lead the way?
Are you one of the timid souls that quail
At the jeers of a doubting crew,
Or dare you, whether you win or fail,
Strike out for a goal that’s new?

FAQ

The old guy didn’t give me any questions to post, much less answers. So if you have any, ask away. They might just pop up on this page with a sweet citation for you. :)

For now, the basics:
are we a nonprofit? yes.
are we fighting for lives? yes.
do we need your help? yes.
is our favorite ice cream really mint chocolate chip? yes. but we’ve been discussing chocolate chip cookie dough with the board.

The Staff

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

To introduce the delightful chaps who are callin the shots over here at Tears of Africa, we thought we’d first read to you a poem – because it pretty much depicts the collective thoughts of our staff day to day (between the papers, exams, shots of caffeine, and smoothies). Then feel free, should you still be interested, to take a look at where we’re coming from. Enjoy. :)

Friends

Tears of Africa is all about networking. In certain places in Africa, you can often walk down the street and see twenty different signs for nonprofits, charities, etc, and many of them are doing the exact same thing. So why don’t we work together?

Help us carry the flag for change. Here are some who already are:

Global Connections Online

The Imagine Network

Anticipation Records

The Seekers
